For those who have been aficionados of Hip-Hop, we now have to add another larger group of acolytes who will pose the universal question, “Who Am I (What’s My Name)?” as some dude named Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr. has joined the Nation of Islam.

And he even comes with his own monastic robe. What, no colors?

And he even comes with his own monastic robe. What, no colors?

Who? Oh, you may know Calvin X as “Snoop Dogg.”

According to the BBC of all places, it’s a fact: Snoop has given up bacon and white women for prayer five times daily.

The rapper, who described himself as the “leader of the hip-hop community”, told followers he would share what he learned with other musicians. He told reporters that he joined the group because he was “doing what’s right and representing what’s right”.

To this, I applaud him. All the money in the world can’t buy you a ticket to heaven, only acceptance in Jesus can do that. At least he is in the right direction of godliness and sanctity. I mean, it has to be a lot better than worshiping “Thaa Godfather” and all that “Chronic” of which I’m sure he only inhaled.

However, the story gets a little more bleak as you continue the read. So, Snoop, why are a member of the Nation again:

I’m an advocate for peace, I’ve been in the peace movement ever since I’ve been making music. My whole thing is not about really trying to push my thing on you. It’s just about the way I live, and I live how I’m supposed to live as far as doing what’s right and representing what’s right – that’s why I was here today.”

Listen, we have all had transgressions of which we are ashamed. And God can forgive, deliver and set us all free. But not even Allah is that dumb?!

If you have always been such an advocate for peace, why would you pen a hymn with these lyrics found in your platinum hits like “Murder was the case”, “Gin & Juice” and “Snoop’s Upside your Head.”

That’s like some preacher crawling on the TBN sound stage saying, “Seriously, Paul. I have never sinned, only been in a few minor incidents that didn’t go in my favor.” It’s foolish to think anyone would believe that… namely when all your issues can be found on Google.

So, here’s to hoping this new found faith serves you well and brings you to a place of enlightenment. Hopefully then, you will come to know the saving grace of Jesus in your theological studies. Or at least when researching a new rap lyric that rhymes with “Cheese Us” or maybe a stretch with “Pizza-s”.

I’m sure your fans will follow you “from tha Chuuuch to da Palace” but as they do, O’ Pied Piper of the LBC, just remember they will be looking to hear much more than about your Chucks and creased khakis, they will want to see that new faith in motion. You feel me?

For the young, aimless ones out there, we can only hope and pray you do.

Yes, that’s a direct quote from the leader of the Nation of Islam. And yes, he should have said that while looking at himself in the mirror smirking the entire time.

During a recent rededication ceremony at Mosque Maryam (national HQ for the Nation of Islam in Chicago), minister Louis Farrakhan rattled off the following:

“Religion as it is being preached and practiced is a failure” … “Are Muhammad and Jesus enemies,” Farrakhan asked. “Why, then, are we?”

If by “organized religion”, you mean being ridden with guilt if you don’t make service, offer your alms publicly just so others can keep you in check, pray five times daily or else and forget eating ham during the holidays, then by Jove, you are right!

Any of that sound familiar, brother minister? Islam (in this country, not globally) is no more unorganized, ritualistic and perfunctory than Christianity, you dunderhead.

And as for your other thunderous epiphany, I have a few points of interest:

  • Jesus and Muhammad aren’t enemies.

True, but one is naturally subservient to the other, guess which one that would be, man who serves a guy who died centuries ago.

  • Muhammad was a man created by God with his own ability to reason. When he was 40, he gets bent about Islam, fasts during Ramadan, ventures to a cave and gets a revelation that “God is One.”

Uh yeah, wake up and the smell the 90s. Not the 1990s or 1890s, just the 90s – as in A.D. You see, Christians knew “God is One” way back then. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you figured that out five hundred years later, but there was no need to write your own holy writ and call it something else to placate to the locals.

  • So just who were you addressing anyway? Did R.W. Schambach open a tent revival nearby?

Note this from the aforementioned story in the Los Angeles Times:

Besides religious leaders of many faiths, hundreds of other visitors were invited by Nation of Islam members to attend the ceremony. They passed through tight security before entering the mosque but were greeted with friendly smiles by Nation of Islam members.

Get this Wall Watchers. Bet you a dollar these were mostly young folk from the South Side, still impressionable in dogma and know the Nation does a TON of beneficence in the community.

So, this is NOT as inculpable as it seems – Farrakhan is not proselytizing unity for the sake of salvation; he is recruiting new soldiers for the sake of growth!

Any time a preacher extols a “We are the World” message, it’s bound to attract folk. Just ask Joel Osteen how that’s working out.

So, MEMO to all the nubile Muslims: Jesus and Muhammad aren’t enemies. BUT… they aren’t buddies either. One was a man, the other is GOD. One was a servant with a plagiarized message, the other is sovereign KING with edicts from on-high. One is dead, the other is ALIVE.

Farrakhan is right about one thing – organized religion is a flop. My recommendation? Try having a relationship with Jesus. If you don’t believe me, consider the following age-old idioms: “Buddha Damnit,” “Allah bless you,” “For the love of Vishnu,” and who could forget “Oh my Satan!” So, what’s wrong with all of these? GOD IS MISSING! There’s a reason for that, big guy. You figure it out.

For months, evangelicals have been up-in-arms surrounding the brainwashed Obamaniacs that have called this cat from Chicago, the “Messiah”. Then again, others have called him, the “Antichrist.”

Whatever happened to people just calling him “Senator”?!

I suppose one title of distinction isn’t enough for an effective self-esteem these days. A brother needs a little something to go with his afterglow. The closer we get to the dreaded day in November and those pseudo-debates issuing nothing but hot air and empty promises, I thought for certain the blod claims were over.

Not so much. Did you see what the bloviating bigot, Louis Farrakhan, had to say about the Democratic candidate? Peep the video for what he clamored in front of mass audience of 100s of impressionable youth. A hearty bricklaying shout out to brick in the Wall, LaVrai, for snuffing this out.

Now, full disclosure, Farrakhan checks himself before he wrecks himself and issues, “Obama is not the Messiah for sure.” I know one thing, this “for sure” has nothing to do with the election, his ability to be president or his propensity to sway this country into a position of prosperity.

Listen, Wall Watchers, this is not a man who flings poo against the bricks flippantly. If he says it, he believes it. There is no room for the media to “distort his message” or “misquote what he meant.”

He knows full well what he said… if only the millions of delusional devotees knew what he meant. Because from that quote, it doesn’t even sound like he did. If only…

Is it too late to ask for Ross Perot to run for office? 🙂
