Church shooting in Tennessee leaves one dead, eight injured

If there is one thing I don’t think I could ever understand – even if I had the wisdom of Solomon – is why some fools think shooting innocent people to spite one in the crowd is a good idea.

There’s a hapless kid in a school, the punk jock bullies pick on him and next, you have Columbine.

And then, there’s stuff like what happened in Knoxville, Tenn. today as a senior citizen wielding a shotgun opened fire during service killing one and wounding eight others.

Local NBC television station WBIR quoted a member of the [Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist] church as saying a man walked into the church while children were performing a scene from “Annie” and began firing a shotgun, striking six or seven people before he was tackled by congregation members.

OK, a few things:

  1. Thank God for those members who risked their lives to pummel this pathetic and sardonic tool.
  2. Greg McKendry Jim Adkisson, the suspect, lived and is custody. Hey, uh Greg, I truly hope you have one “bumpy” ride to the pokey!
  3. Annie? In church? I’m just sayin’.
  4. Back to my original point, if your life is so terrible, why make that other people’s problem? As details develop from this story, we’ll discover Mr. “Dude is surely warming a seat in hell” had beef with someone in the church, woke up and decided to use the place as target practice.
  5. So, so sad. Senseless. Pointless. Ruthless. Why not stay home, save some cash and only use one bullet… on yourself? I realize that is not Christian, and I repent. But is your struggles worth the countless of people whose lives you will destroy because you don’t have the mental acuity of a six-year old to deal with them.

Jesus, your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Be with those families of the injured and deceased. Keep them, love them and give them a peace that passes all understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

UPDATE (07/28): Although the suspect did live and the aforementioned visceral emotion was directed at him, the suspect was not named Greg McKendry. NOTE New post. McKendry was the hero! Thanks again for the correction.

MEMO to self: Don’t ever post anything on the Wall that early in the morning without a trip to HiScrivener’s favorite coffee place. Thanks for the heads-up, Kynn

  3. Kynn says:

You do know you got that totally wrong, right? Greg McKendry isn’t the shooter… and Greg didn’t live.
