Gospel legend critically injured in car crash

We all have a testimony and a path that brought us to where we are today. My own spiritual marathon began with Gospel music at an iconic radio station affectionately known as “Heaven 97” KHVN-970 AM.

There, I cut my teeth in radio – a home to HiScrivener for more than a decade – on the dreaded graveyard shift. With nothing really to do but watch network news and the Weather Channel, I listened carefully to the music. One night, I heard a rhythmic beat carrying a catchy tune called, “Trouble Don’t Last Always.”

You see, before that particular shift I had a bad day… a really bad day. And then:

Weeping may endure for a night. Keep the faith, it will be alright. Trouble don’t last always.

Shakespeare once wrote, “Brevity is the soul of wit.” Those lyrics may seem simple, but on that night in that circumstance, Rev. Timothy Wright‘s wisdom lasted my entire shift. Turns out, that reverend is a Gospel music icon, nominee of 10 Grammy awards and considered by many to be the “Godfather of Gospel”.

Yesterday, according to this story in the New York TImes, that man was involved in a horrific car crash where he was badly injured and his wife was killed. My prayer, as should yours Wall watchers, is that he remembers and is able to sing again those oracular words he penned so long ago. No one knows why it happened to such a prince, and asking “Why” will only drive folk bananas.

What’s important is for all Christians to pray for healing, courage, strength and knowledge that trouble TRULY and somehow don’t last always.
