Idol? Zschech. Worship? Zschech. Jesus? Not So Much.

OK, OK. Let’s stand up in unison and applaud the world’s most popular TV show, “American Idol,” for giving an amazing worship song some love. Note here:

BUT not so fast, A.I./G.O.D. fans. After the song is over, the shouting to the Lord is finished and the rolling credits have sped past, keep in mind the executive producer thought it would be poignant to omit the words, “MY JESUS” from the lyrics. G’ahead. Play it again, I can wait… [HiScrivener twiddling thumbs, filing nails and rearranging the sock drawer].

Yep, all great eight finalists can say, “Savior” and “Lord” but that definitive term of God’s son, “JESUS”… yeah, let’s cut that out. We don’t want to offend millions of people watching kids starving in Africa, many of which in this country realize that through him is the only way to save those kids completely.

In case you may be in that one church that still hums a few bars of “The Old Rugged Cross”, here are the lyrics. Yes, be thankful that commercial television can break out one of God’s Top 10, but let’s not be satisfied. This is the same network that thinks God has a last name… and uses it. So, for those that like to kick it “ol’ skool”, here is the way it should be done:
